Serving mothers in Southwest MN through education, support, and companionship

Hello!

I’m Jenny

As a doula, I am passionate about supporting mothers and their families during the sacred journey of bringing new life into this world. It is my heart to connect the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of birth together. By providing education and resources, consistent support, and offering the space to process it all, I’m here to empower you as a part of your village.

“What is a doula, exactly?”

“Why would I hire a doula?”

Understandable questions! I get it. We are currently a few (at least) generations removed from our birth and postpartum experiences being communal and having other women there to simply care for the mother.

The word doula can be translated to: woman servant. A doula is someone who is hired and positioned to support and serve a mother during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. Most of this care consists of, but is not limited to:

  • Providing education and resources on pregnancy, the physiology of birth, laboring techniques and strategies, navigating a planned cesarean, and how to care for yourself and your new baby during postpartum

  • Resourcing care provider options in your local area

  • Providing emotional and physical support during these stages and seasons

  • Consistent support throughout labor & birth, or during a planned cesarean

  • Uniquely, I can also provide prayer and spiritual support.

One note to make in all of this is that doulas are not medical professionals—we are not licensed to diagnose, administer anything, or make any kind of medical decision for you.

The transition into motherhood is one that brings a lot of transformation for a woman. Having non-judgemental, encouraging, educational, and consistent support is not only helpful for a specific birth experience, but for the mental/emotional and physical health of a woman experiencing this transition–and what an honor it is to provide that care as a doula.

“I was drawn to Jenny’s calm, kind, and affirming presence as soon as I had the privilege of spending one on one time with her. Her passion for supporting mothers throughout pregnancy and birth was obvious from the start of our relationship.

Jenny thoughtfully took care to thoroughly explore and address all of my thoughts, desires, dreams, beliefs and fears regarding my VBAC. She lovingly and patiently allowed me to process my first birth (C section, prior to working with Jenny) and fully embraced my efforts to pursue a VBAC, empowering me to keep believing that my body could do it, right up until we heard my sweet baby’s first cry.

Jenny was present for all 38 hours of my labor. She emboldened me when it was time to assert my desires to the hospital staff when options contrary to our birth plan were pushed. Jenny helped me stick to my original wishes, while making space for me to process the changes I chose to make as labor progressed.

During my labor, Jenny assisted me with various body positioning, physical exercise, nutrition, comfort (including warm lighting that created an atmosphere I didn’t think possible of a hospital room!) aromatherapy, preferred music, encouraging words, massage, and more. With Jenny’s supportive presence, I was able to have a successful VBAC!

Jenny made time for me to verbally process the birth post partum thoroughly with her one on one, then together with my husband, which was incredibly helpful. Jenny requested that we share areas of growth for her to consider, which she received ever so graciously. She has my highest recommendation.”

“I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.”

“I met Jenny and we became friends just prior to hiring her as our doula for our third birth. Our first two births were less than optimal with one being emergently induced in a state, and then home, 12-hours from family and friends. The second during the first year of Covid with nobody but my spouse allowed in the room. Both prior births were unmedicated and I desired this for my third as well.

I chose Jenny because of her sweet demeanor, respect, and gentle manner. Furthermore, we appreciated her spiritual emphasis given to birth and to life. Her faith in Christ matched our own and this mattered to us. She was amazing during our entire process.

She met with us weeks prior to delivery to gather our needs and desires for labor. She also prayed with us and guaranteed she would be there every step of the journey. Furthermore, she assisted me in surrendering anxiety and uncertainty during labor. Once baby was born, she provided great comfort during my tougher postpartum journey. She was there for me.

I cannot say enough good about my experience. She was an advocate, comfort and confidant during my journey to meeting my son. Initially, I was very uncertain and uncomfortable with the idea of a friend witnessing my labor and delivery. However, Jenny treated it with the utmost professionalism and it felt very natural and normal. We are very thankful for her assistance. We would have no second thoughts on hiring her again.”
